Ralf Schumacher, brother of F1 legend Michael Schumacher, is disappointed by the comments of Marc Surer, a former driver. According to Surer, Mick Schumacher would not have enough talent to make it to Formula 1.
Ralf Schumacher sees this completely differently: “I am amazed at how Marc Surer assesses this. Mick would not have the talent? How should one judge that? You certainly cannot speak of a lack of talent. I think his comments are totally unnecessary.”
According to Schumacher, talent is nowhere near enough to reach Formula 1, even for someone like Max Verstappen. “He has been lucky. Max is a super talent, but he has also received support.”
With which Schumacher refers to the financial support from father Jos Verstappen and then Red Bull. “Today, eight million in Formula 1 is no longer enough. It is hard work. Money versus talent. Even if someone is so talented, if he cannot test, he will lose to a driver with more money,” he said. Schumacher against the German Sport1.
In Formula 1, only one debutant was at the start this season. Nicholas Latifi, who is backed by the tens of millions his father pumps into Williams. In recent years, only drivers who were part of a training program of the big teams, or drivers whose father had tens of millions to spare for a seat, have made their debut in Formula 1.
