Rhône. Police officer injured in Bron during the interception of a stolen van

During the night from Friday to Saturday, in Bron, a police officer from the anti-crime brigade was injured when the driver of a stolen van was arrested, who tried to restart.

Blocked in a back alley

The alert had been given earlier in the night, by the owner of a Mercedes Sprinter which had just been stolen in Villeurbanne. The utility being equipped with a geolocation system, its owner indicated his position to the police. He was spotted in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon, where the anti-crime brigade followed him discreetly.

The van headed for Bron, where it entered a side alley, where it was blocked. If the passenger allowed himself to be challenged without resistance, the driver, who is only 17 years old, attempted a dangerous maneuver.

Knee injury

As a policeman tried to pull him out of the van, the teenager took the first step, dragging the policeman who sustained a knee injury. The latter nevertheless managed to seize the keys to stop the van, which almost mowed down a policewoman.

After denying the theft of the Sprinter, the teenager ended up explaining that after an evening in Villeurbanne, he saw this vehicle open, and had found the keys inside. He decided to use it to take a walk and take a friend home. He was left free with a summons to court for indictment.

In Bron, last January, a police officer had been killed by the driver of a van who refused to stop during a check.
