Around 10.30 a.m. a bus driver from De Lijn found a 91-year-old man lifeless at a bus stop on Blancefloerlaan in Antwerp. The emergency services have tried to resuscitate him, but that has not been successful.
Everything indicated that the victim was hit by a car and that the driving driver committed a hit and run. “The public prosecutor’s office has therefore immediately appointed a traffic expert and a legal doctor”, says Lieselotte Claessens of the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office. “The doctor’s initial findings showed that the victim would have been hit by a car.”
In the course of the day, the police tracked down a suspect, Claessens continues: “A De Lijn bus has been seized for investigation and a bus driver has also been arrested and interrogated.” The driver is a 45-year-old man.
