The new Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (SP.A) is concerned about the rising corona figures. He recommends limiting the number of contacts.

“I am very worried,” Vandenbroucke declared on the French-language channel RTL. ‘The trend is really not good. The figures are rising: the number of infections and hospital admissions. The real danger is that our healthcare infrastructure will become overloaded. In Brussels, the situation is alarming, as it is almost everywhere in Belgium. We are currently studying the measures. I am not going to announce any new measures now. Even in an emergency, we should avoid improvisation. I think we should be much more careful. There are six golden rules. We have to limit the number of close contacts. ‘
Vandenbroucke recommends limiting the number of close contacts outside the family to three instead of the five contacts currently recommended. “Decisions will follow soon,” he says. The minister wants to avoid at all costs a situation where schools have to close and the elderly have to be isolated.
The number of infections with the new corona virus is still on the rise and even seems to speed up again. On average, there were 1,913.6 confirmed cases in the week of September 24-30. On Wednesday, a new day record was set with 3,004 new cases.
