Zagłębie Lubin – Górnik. Zabrze lost the leader of PKO Ektraklasa – result and report

Górnik started the meeting in Lubin as an undefeated leader. His winning march was slightly slowed down by Wisła Kraków, which managed to snatch a point from him. Zagłębie players have also consistently accumulated points, although they were not as loud as about Zabrze. The inhabitants of Lubin knew that if they defeated their rival, they could become a leader themselves.

The guests were the first to show their great aspirations. In the 9th minute, Bartosz Nowak hit Zagłębie’s goal like a cannon, and Dominik Hładun hit the ball to the side. The hosts tried to answer. Just a moment later, Patryk Szysz performed a hit action on the wing, but no one closed his cross.

In the 17th minute, Martin Chudy had to go generously from the goal in order to be on the ball in front of his opponent. In the 33rd minute, Roman Prochazka shot from a distance, but close to the goal. A minute later they were lucky that Samuel Mraz, going alone with Skinny, turned out to be offside.

Five minutes later, nothing saved them. Sasa Zivec boldly entered the opponent’s penalty area. He deceived one defender in an assassination attempt. He hit the short horn hard. The ball on the way bounced off the post and broke Skinny’s hands. Copper took the lead.

Three minutes later it looked as though another goal would be scored. Mraz got the ball again, rushing towards Górnik’s goal. The referee did not call offside until the hosts’ player sent the ball into the opponent’s goal. What did not work then, he did in the 44th minute, when Patryk Szysz used another wrong setting of the Zabrze, he ran on goal himself and turned the situation into a goal.

The beginning of the second half was dominated by Górnik and we could watch Zagłębie’s sixteenth crosses from both sides. However, no one was able to finalize these situations. In the 63rd minute, Sobczyk “danced” under Hładun’s goal, but when he was attacked by the defenders, he failed to get the ball into the net over the intervening goalkeeper. In the 70th minute, Jesus Jimenez took the throw into the penalty area and hit the goal as he fell. Too weak. Hładun caught the ball.

Zagłębie also had an opportunity to increase its result. In the 80th minute, the players from Lubin were defeated four against three. Zivec, who found himself with the ball slightly to the side of the goal, wanted to play to Łukasz Poręba, but Adam Ryczkowski kicked the ball into a corner with a sacrificial slide. Rok Sirk, who shot from between the two defenders, also missed a great chance in the end, but too lightly to beat Skinny.

Zaglebie won and threw Górnik from the leader seat. Raków Częstochowa sat on it, thanks to the best goal balance. However, as many as the first three teams have the same number of points. They are: Raków, Zagłębie and Górnik.

They said after the game:

Marcin Brosz (Górnik’s coach): The beginning of the meeting was important and it was important then. We saw how Zagłębie was positioned and we knew that one goal could change the face of this game. We missed long shots, looking for other opportunities than just a combination game. Time passed and Zagłębie was more and more dangerous in its counterattacks and had more and more of them. In the second half, we were chasing the result, looking for a contact goal to give ourselves a boost. There have been occasions, but there have not been any where a goal should be scored. This shows that there is still a lot of work ahead of us.

Martin Sevela (Zagłębie coach): It was a difficult game, but the strategic plan that we set up before the game was made on the pitch. There was commitment and determination. We made progress with attitude because we fought from the very beginning. Two times there was a VAR to our disadvantage, but then there was a good pass and Patryk Szysz knew what he was supposed to do with the ball. It was the second goal because the first goal was the individual quality of Sasa Zivc. We had a bit of luck today, but we fought for it. During the break I told my players that in the second half they have to do defense work as recently as in Białystok and it was done. The whole team was involved in the defense game and it was looking very good. We are satisfied with the victory, commitment and fight of the entire team.
