Covid-19 Patients Still Have the Right to Vote for the 2020 Pilkada

Patients Covid-19 the infected corona virus in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) can still follow Simultaneous Regional Election 2020.

The Chairperson of the DIY KPU, Hamdan Kurniawan said that they could still exercise their voting rights on December 9, 2020. This applies to patients who are undergoing treatment at the hospital (RS) and people without symptoms (OTG) who are undergoing quarantine.

According to Hamdan, this refers to KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 6 of 2020. According to Hamdan, the positive patients with Covid-19 are in the same situation as people who are sick in general.


“How is the implementation at the hospital? Just like the previous Pilkada, the officers will come from the treatment rooms after coordinating with the hospital,” Hamdan explained in a webinar in Yogyakarta, Saturday (3/10).

For the technical implementation of the discussion, according to Hamdan, it will be carried out after 12.00 WIB with the assistance of TPS officers.

While the election procedure for OTGs that carry out self-quarantine, the Yogyakarta KPU will coordinate with the Covid-19 Handling Task Force.

“So that everyone is safe from transmission,” he said.

“We will also update patient data,” continued the former commissioner of the Sleman KPU.

The data update was carried out because not all Covid-19 patients were voters in the 2020 Pilkada.

In addition, the Chairperson of the DIY Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), Bagus Sarwono also said that Bawaslu would form a Covid-19 working group in the regions that carry out the Pilkada. The Pokja is to supervise and discipline the implementation of the regional head election process.

“We hope that the Muhammadiyah Youth can take part in the supervision of this election,” said Bagus.

Meanwhile, Lecturer in Government Studies at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Ridho Al-Hamdi, asked the KPU and Bawaslu to have the courage to act decisively against the perpetrators of election violations.
