100,000 followers in two days

Diederik Gommers is a direct hit on Instagram. In three days he gained almost 150,000 followers. On the social media platform, he thanks his followers for all the attention.

“Overwhelmed by all the followers here on Instagram! I don’t know what is happening to me… ”he wrote. “Except for my son, I get positive and warm responses from many people.”

Younger audience

Gommers created Instagram to reach a younger audience. The doctor did this after he ended up in a spicy discussion with singer Famke Louise at Jinek. The two will soon start a joint corona campaign.

Gommers says he wants to talk to his followers about “certain matters” on social media, but also promises to share a photo of his favorite specialty beer every now and then.

Overwhelmed by all the followers here on Instagram! I don’t know what is happening to me … Except for my son, I get positive and warm reactions from many people. This afternoon I was a guest at Lof der Medicine, to talk about the Corona virus. It was discussed, among other things, that we now see that we have received more patients in the past two weeks, but relatively speaking it is a bit quieter in intensive care. Now there are more people in the ‘normal’ ward. There are concerns about enough beds, but that is also because we are keen to continue regular care. So we want two things now, so that creates a ‘tension field’, but we are much better prepared than the first time, so we are working hard now, but we are also ready for it. What we also notice is that we have too few nurses. When we set up the IC for thirty or forty years, we had a lot of nurses and few doctors. Now we have more doctors and few nurses. We have many beautiful, innovative projects that can help us to do healthcare differently, so that we need fewer people. Not so much because we need fewer people, but so that the people who are there can provide real empathetic care. Being able to really be there for the patients, entering into a conversation with the family. We want to optimize that even more. I think we’ve passed that on for the last ten years. I think we’ve gotten a little lazy over the last ten years. Thanks again for all the sweet messages, I wish you a nice weekend.
