Douglas BBL start: “TTT Riga” is visiting Liepaja, debut game in Kandava

On Saturday, October 3, the Douglas Baltic Basketball League Championship will start with three games in Kandava, Liepaja and Saldus. In the tournament, which unites the best women’s teams in the Baltic States for the third year, in the first stage, the teams will play only within their own country.

In the elite group 11 teams have been applied for – five Latvian, four Lithuanian and two Estonian. The mini-tournament of the Latvian team will be introduced by the fight of the two best teams of the last season: at 16:30 SBK “Liepāja” / LSSS – “TTT Rīga” will go to the square of Liepāja Olympic Center. The game will be available live on the LBS YouTibe channel.

SBK “Liepāja / LSSS experienced from last season are experienced Katrīna Petermane and Rūta Stiprā (Veidere), as well as Līna Loceniece, Katrīna Trankale, Elvija Veršele, Ketija Vihmane and Daniela Grigorjeva, joined by two peers from other cities new players Madara Treimane (2003), Karlīna Kalna (2004), Sanija Brikmane and Madara Šmite (both 2006). Lydia Riversa, an American, has been nominated as the only legionnaire, who has not yet trained with the team, because she is in self-isolation, following the rules of “Covid-19” restriction. The team continues to be led by Kaspars Mājenieks.

“TTT Riga” under the leadership of the new head coach Mārtiņš Gulbs is preparing for the Euroleague tournament. It still includes Kitty Laksa, Aija Klakockka, Karlīna Pilābere, as well as legionnaires Binta Drame and Megana Hafa, who played last year. After a break of a year, Ieva Pulvere has returned, with Ilze Jākobsone and Dinija Pāvelsone, players of the national team, as well as Jessica Tomasa from America and Taisija Udodenko from Ukraine.

In the international group 10 Latvian teams and the Estonian unit G4S have applied, which will not play in the first stage. The tournament will be opened at 4 pm by the debutant “Kandava” game with “Jelgava”, which can be seen live on the LBS YouTube channel, as well as the BC “Saldus” / Sports School duel with the Latvian U16 national team.
