The carmaker, in cooperation with designers from the Škoda Design department, has prepared a series in which it will gradually present modern interpretations of its fundamental models. Of course, it starts with the first car ever built in Mladá Boleslav.

The first car of the Czech carmaker is the two-seater Laurin & Klement Voiturette A, which was born in 1905 – ten years after the founding of L&K. The name Voiturette A comes from a French diminutive for a cart or a small car.
The machine was powered by a four-stroke liquid-cooled two-cylinder fork with a volume of 1005 cm3 and a power of 5 kW, which was enough for a maximum speed of 40 km / h. 44 pieces were produced.
The L&K Voiturette A was chosen by Yuchan Chang, a young designer from China who works in the interior design department. For example, she participated in the Vision E study and is currently completing tasks related to an unnamed future production car of the brand.
And what fascinated her about Voiturette A? “This car is amazing, so simple, and yet it has a lot of beautiful to artistic details. And the sofa is exactly as comfortable as I imagined, “she said after sitting behind the wheel of the exhibit at the Škoda Museum.

Its modern interpretation of the first Mladá Boleslav car is relatively specific, especially in its focus. At first glance, however, the design clearly follows the shapes of the historic machine. “I wanted to keep the original spirit of the car. It has a very characteristic shape with a distinctive hood, a high seating position on a couch and a minimalist layout of the driver’s workplace, “describes Yuchan, who decided to change the color of the car from red to blue. “It’s the color of the future and a symbol of sustainability,” explains Chang. The golden details remained.
And that focus? The designer created her vision with the idea of a kind of autonomous carriage that would take tourists – for example, around Prague. The two-seater concept therefore lacks controls. On the other hand, there is a display that shows a description of the monuments or presents the history of the Škoda.

The wheels are interestingly designed, as the rims are LED displays. The display can also be found on the radiator grille. “It should be a way for the car to communicate with you, welcome you. The whole car should have a friendly impression, which is why it got subtle and rounded shapes, ”says the designer, who also described how her idea was born.
It is said that she got the idea of the car’s orientation quickly, but the basic sketch, ie the most important thing when creating a design, required about 20 hours of work. “I started with a pencil on tracing paper, I was the first to work outdoors. I scanned the basic sketch into a computer and continued there, “says Yuchan.
She then consulted the result with Škoda’s head of design, Oliver Stefani. He had only minor comments, he warned Chang that she should remove some details reminiscent of the solutions that the design team is preparing for production cars.
Yü-chan is now thinking what to do next. “Maybe I’ll create a 3D model on a computer, I can develop some details there,” suggests the next step. And, of course, she would like to see her vision once, for example, in the form of a real concept …
