Karl-Heinz Frick, who will be 80 on Monday, October 5th, has always been enthusiastic about sports of all kinds, but especially swimming. Frick learned to swim as a child in Sanderau im Main, which his mother didn’t like, as one of her brothers had drowned in a river. Karlheinz Frick was already a youth trainer at the TGW at the age of 16, at the age of 21 he was a trainer and board member of the swimming club 05. After graduating from high school (now X-ray grammar school) and studying sports, biology and chemistry, he held teaching positions at the university .
In 1970 he came to the Siebold-Gymnasium, where he further developed school ski courses, media equipment and peer-to-peer sports; from 1990 to 2002 he was an employee in the directorate. Between the twin cities of Würzburg and Dundee he organized the first school sport exchange in swimming (July 1976). Every year in July for 30 years, Frick organized the school swimming festivals in the Dallenbergbad for Würzburg’s schools.
Chairman of TSV Lengfeld
Frick founded the support association of the municipal kindergarten in 1977 and, after the incorporation in 1978, was a co-founder of the Lengfeld citizens’ association. From 1981 to 2010 he was chairman of TSV Lengfeld, with 2,600 members at times the largest multi-discipline club in Würzburg. For the “Würzburger List”, Frick sat for two terms from 1990 to 2002 in the city council of Würzburg.
For 30 years (1978 to 2007) Frick was a member of the sports advisory board, which represents the interests of the sports clubs vis-à-vis the town hall, in the Association of Würzburg Sports Clubs (VWS) with its 110 member clubs, Frick was Vice President from 1986 and President from 1989 to 2010 .
Among the numerous honors and awards that Frick received for his persistent, decades-long commitment to sport, school and the city, the two-time award of the School Sport Merit Medal by the Minister of Education Hans Maier (1981) and Monika Hohlmeier (1998) are particularly important, as well as the honorary letter of the city of Würzburg for the “outstanding achievements in the service of physical fitness of youth and sport in our city” (November 2003, Mayor Pia Beckmann) and the award as “Board of Directors of the year 1999” of the Main-Post, which he received in May 2000 together with his fellow board members from TSV Lengfeld.
