Gamemaker Blizzard has the release date of the new expansion for World of Warcraft postponed at the last minute, the company reports website.
The expansion pack Shadowlands was scheduled for October 27, but that deadline turns out not to be feasible. “This was an incredibly difficult decision to make,” lead producer John Hight wrote in an announcement.
It’s rare that the release of a new game is delayed so shortly in advance. According to Hight, more time is needed to properly finish the new expansion pack. Certain game systems also have to be balanced.
It is not yet clear when Shadowlands will be released. “The game has been delayed until later this year. We are still working to set a new date.”
World of Warcraft appeared in 2004 and has since become one of the largest online games in the world. In the expansion pack Shadowlands the maximum level is lowered to make the game more accessible to new players.
The creator of the highly anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077 was recently short of time, but decided not to postpone his deadlines. Instead, staff have to work overtime for extended periods of time.
