The protesters claim that the picket is “absolutely spontaneous” and does not have a single organizer. The purpose of such a gathering is to indicate significant problems that should be solved by the Riga City Council.
About ten middle-aged and older people take part in the picket. Several of them are holding posters with the words “Feed the poor, not the party”, “An equal society has no future!” and “Provide free food for the needy!”, but on another poster written in Russian the question “Eat power, hungry people?”.
As reported, the first meeting of the new Riga City Council will take place on Friday at 10 am, the agenda of which includes two issues – on the election of the Riga City Council Vote Counting Commission, as well as on the election of the Chairman of the Riga City Council.
It has already been reported that on Wednesday, representatives of the four lists signed a coalition cooperation agreement at the Riga City Hall.
The new coalition will include “Development / For” / “Progressive” (APP), “New Unity” (JV), the National Union / Association of Latvian Regions (NA / LRA) and The new Conservative Party (JKP) or a total of seven different parties.
The coalition partners agreed that the chairman of the Riga City Council will be Mārtiņš Staķis (APP), he will have three deputies who will represent the other coalition cooperation partners.
APP will chair the Committee on Financial and Administrative Affairs, Education, the Committee on Culture and Sport, the Committee on the Environment and Housing and the Committee on Social Affairs. The JV will chair the Urban Development Committee and the Traffic and Transport Committee.
A representative of the NA / LRA will chair the City Property Committee and the JPP will chair the Committee on Security, Order and Anti-Corruption.
