New iPhone 12 Pro case shows major change to camera – One More Thing

The release of the iPhone 12 is fast approaching and so many rumors are popping up again. This time it’s about the camera.

We have to wait a while and then we finally know what the iPhone 12 looks like and what specs the device has. Until then, we have to make do with rumors. Although a number of things seem to be almost certain, a number of news still manage to surprise. One of them has come out today.

Another camera bump for the iPhone 12 Pro

Images have leaked of the new cases that you can put on the iPhone 12 to protect them. These plastic cases have the shape that has already been leaked: the design that is inspired by the iPhone 4. Yet there is one big change that we did not see coming: the camera on the back.

Apple leaker LeaksApplePro shows the images on his Twitter account. He has obtained a number of photos from case maker Speck. Although there is no iPhone 12 on the packaging, the size betrays that it is indeed those devices. The dimensions are 5.4 and 6.7 inches, which hints at the dimensions of the iPhone 12 mini and the Pro Max. An iPhone 11 Pro Max has been placed in one of the cases, which shows that the camera bump of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a lot bigger. Still, it cannot be compared completely 1-to-1 as the 11 Pro Max is of course 6.5 inches.

LiDAR

It is still unknown what explains that larger camera bump. It may of course be that the lenses become larger or that an extra camera is added. The most logical explanation, however, seems to be the addition of a LiDAR sensor. Rumors about adding the sensor have been going on for some time.

The tasty also shows images of the cases for the iPhone 12 mini, whereby the proof becomes stronger that a smaller version of the iPhone is coming. However, the camera bump seems smaller than that of the Pro Max, so it seems that probably only the pros have a bigger camera bump. This may be consistent with the previous news that only the Pros will have a liDAR sensor.
