From 5 October, customers will also be able to pay with Sodexo meal vouchers in the Lidl chain stores. Until now, the German chain only accepts its exclusive meal vouchers, our meal vouchers, which their owners can also use in Kaufland, for example. Sodexo sees the establishment of cooperation with the chain “another possibility of quality lunch for holders of meal vouchers and meal voucher cards”.
“Sodexo is the largest provider of benefits in the Czech Republic. With this partnership, we want to enable this group of customers to pay in our stores as well,” says Iveta Barabášová, spokeswoman for Lidl, which is the largest food chain in the Czech Republic.
“By establishing cooperation and connecting Lidl stores to our network, we provide 700,000 holders of meal vouchers and meal voucher cards with another opportunity to purchase food for the preparation of a quality lunch,” adds Sodexo Benefity spokeswoman Tereza Knířová.
It is the publishers of meal vouchers that have recently become one of the key critics of the so-called meal voucher package. If approved, he would give the employer the choice of providing the employee with meal vouchers or untaxed money for meals.
Economists point out that loud criticism of the flat rate by meal voucher publishers is logical – the introduction of a flat rate may deprive them of their monopoly on tax-advantaged meals.
However, according to their meal meal giants, they are most worried that people with cash will stop going to hot meals in restaurants and canteens and will “go out” in supermarkets, for example.
According to the CEO of Sodexo Pass, Daniel Čapek, the meal voucher package does not in any way guarantee the use of untaxed money for food. “According to surveys, only 6% of people would spend money in addition to the payout on eating in a restaurant, and nothing will stop them from buying alcohol or tobacco products for them,” he said some time ago. “People will definitely not stop eating, but will choose cheaper alternatives, especially when they will not have an affordable lunch in the staff canteen,” he added.
So far, Lidl only accepts meal vouchers. Our meal vouchers, which their owners can use in addition to the Lidl and Kaufland stores, which belong to the same German retail group Schwarz, also at more than 9,500 locations within the acceptance network. At present, our meal voucher is used by more than 8,000 customers, both in paper form and in the form of a meal voucher card.
