10,500 kilos of shrimps seized for fraud | Inland

The three parties trade in shrimp that are caught and brought ashore in the Netherlands, and then peeled in Morocco. The peeled shrimps are then shipped back to the Netherlands, but the certificates of this trip are incorrect. This means that the shrimps are not traceable and they do not comply with food safety. According to European regulations, it must always be clear where food comes from.

The three companies are suspected of forging and defrauding certificates. The motivation behind the forgery is unclear and part of the investigation. The NVWA makes no statements about where the kilos of shrimp were seized. The whole catch is destroyed.
