KOMPAS.com – Due to emergency maintenance on the cable system internet under the sea Asia-America Gateway (AAG), the internet service provider (ISP) from the Philippines, Sky Cable Corp announced the disruption to their service.
Through the social media Twitter, internet users in Indonesia also complained about the slowdown in their internet network connection.
For example, a user with an @indradewaputra account complains about the slow service IndiHome since the last few days.
Indihome has been slow and unstable for days. So during the Weekend you are forced to use your own quota. I think I have to replace this biznet. How @IndiHome ?

However, is it true that the emergency maintenance of the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) underwater internet cable also affects internet services in Indonesia?
According to the Chairman Internet Indonesian Data Center (IDC), Johar Alam Rangkuti, maintenance of AAG cables does not affect Indonesia’s internet services.
Johar said that currently the AAG cable in Indonesia is still not active. As a result, 90 percent of Indonesia’s internet traffic still relies on an underwater optical cable of the SeaMeWe-3 type.
SeaMeWe-3 is an underwater optical cable that connects Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe whose development is led by France Telecom and China Telecom, and is administered by Singtel.
Then regarding the slow internet connection that occurs on First Media’s service, Johar is of the opinion that the service provider is experiencing problems from the company’s business side.
“If First Media has had a quality problem since the frequency license was revoked. Since then it has been problematic because there is a fine, maybe yes, First Media’s quality has gone down in a row,” Johar told KompasTekno, Wednesday (30/9/2020).

Meanwhile, Johar believes that the decline in the quality of the IndiHome internet is influenced by the high traffic that has occurred in the last few weeks.
“For IndiHome, it seems that the problem is that their traffic is too full, maybe. So there is not a cable termination but capacity bandwidth “Both of them are full of possibilities,” said Johar.
He also suspects that the slowdown in IndiHome’s internet connection is related to the large number of workers working from home (work from home/WFH).
“It’s too full, so they are upgrade-it takes time, “said Johar.
AAG itself is a cable system that provides cross-country connectivity, covering Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, and the West Coast of the United States.
AAG was built and financed by a consorium of cross-border telecommunications companies, including in Indonesia, namely PT Telkom Indonesia and PT Indonesia Satellite Corporation or which has now changed to PT Indosat Tbk.
