Covid-19: Brazil adds up to more than a thousand deaths in 24 hours – News

The last time that the Brazilian government added more than a thousand fatalities daily due to the new coronavirus was on September 15, when the country recorded 1,113 deaths.

According to the latest epidemiological bulletin released by the Ministry of Health, 486 of the 1,031 deaths occurred in the last three days, but were only incorporated into today’s data, after confirming the cause of death.

Regarding the number of confirmed cases, Brazil today exceeded 4.8 million infected (4,810,935), with 33,413 infections occurring in the last 24 hours.

The health authorities of the South American country are also investigating the possible relationship of 2,466 deaths with the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

In total, 4,180,376 diagnosed patients have already recovered from the disease in Brazil, the Portuguese-speaking country most affected by the pandemic, while 486,607 infected are under medical supervision.

São Paulo (985,628), Bahia (310,526), Minas Gerais (295,169) and Rio de Janeiro (264,783) are the states that concentrate the largest number of positive cases of the disease.

The federative units with the most deaths are São Paulo (35,622), followed by Rio de Janeiro (18,487), Ceará (8,994) and Pernambuco (8,251).

The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) today recommended that preventive measures against covid-19 be reinforced in Manaus and the rest of the state of Amazonas.

In a technical note, the foundation notes the upward trend in cases of the new coronavirus and states that the situation “is strongly influenced by records associated with Manaus residents”.

“In both cases, this growth is still relatively slow, but persistent, which suggests the need to reevaluate any measures for easing the physical distance already adopted or planned for the coming weeks”, defends the document.

The institution stresses that the situation is reversible, as long as protection and isolation measures are fulfilled again.

The peak of covid-19 in Amazonas occurred between April and May, when the health and funeral systems collapsed in the state capital, Manaus.

An investigation by Fiocruz indicates that Manaus is experiencing a second wave of the disease and suggests ‘lockdown’ (total blocking of movement of people) to contain the advance, a measure already ruled out by the local government.

According to today’s data from the Ministry of Health, Amazonas totals 139,326 cases of infection and 4,156 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, officially registered in the country on February 26.
