US hotel chain pays $ 800 million to victims of Las Vegas shooting

On October 1, 2017, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd attending a festival in Las Vegas. He did that from a hotel room in the Mandalay Bay Hotel. The motive for his act is unknown. The man, acting alone, took his own life.

About 2,000 people – relatives of the victims and survivors of the mass murder – subsequently filed a complaint against MGM, because the hotel owner had not taken sufficient security measures. The shooter could have taken refuge in the hotel room and brought in weapons and ammunition undisturbed.

Hotel and casino group MGM Resorts had previously announced that it was willing to pay $ 800 million to the victims. A judge has now approved that settlement.
