Jasper de Wit is a general practitioner in Vlaardingen. We spoke to him earlier in March.
“For a few weeks now, the corona virus has been showing itself again.
I also notice another effect, which was also the case in the spring: the demand for regular care is declining. You see that people are reluctant to contact their GP.
A special department for corona patients has been in operation in the GP post since April. I fear that we will have to scale up further in the near future.
The longer this misery lasts, the more it affects you. For example, last weekend I saw a seriously ill corona patient with an intellectual disability. She had to be transferred to a hospital far away, because it was too full in Rotterdam. Then you think: a woman like that, all alone in an environment that is completely unknown to her, with completely strange people, how would she be doing now? That keeps you busy.
