The infections in the country are increasing at a rapid pace; 4953 new cases have been added in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 1,552 since the outbreak began. A quarter of a million people have been infected so far.
The country with 8.8 million inhabitants has been in a ‘complete lockdown’ since last Friday. The residents are not allowed to go further than a kilometer from home, but Netanyahu wants to make it 200 meters, Haaretz writes. Defense Minister Benny Gantz, however, does not want to hear about this and says the government is “driving people crazy.” The Prime Minister’s answer: “You don’t have to tell me whether we’re driving people crazy or not.”
Double fines
Professor Ronni Gamzu, head of the country’s team of experts, advised the government on Wednesday to double the fines. Anyone who does not wear a mouth mask will receive a fine of 1000 shekels, converted around 250 euros. Anyone who breaks their quarantine can face a fine of 2500 euros. Holding a large meeting now costs an Israeli 1,250 euros, but this will be 12,500 euros in his opinion.
Demonstrations limited
The Israeli parliament passed a law on Wednesday morning restricting demonstrations as part of corona measures. Despite the lockdown, thousands of people took to the streets in recent days to demonstrate against Netanyahu.
