Husband and wife killed from Covid-19 in nine days from each other. Yesterday at the Reanimation of the Camposampiero hospital, where he had been hospitalized for a few days, he died Bruno Marcato, he was 90 years old.
The death occurred around 13, nine days after wife Angela Benedetti, 89, passed away on Sunday 20 September after being attacked by him ruthless virus. Bruno Marcato had fallen ill before his wife Angela and his son Gianni, who is still hospitalized in Padua.
He had begun to accuse some line of temperature three weeks ago, he had stayed three days in bed at home before being hospitalized on 12 September with the help of an ambulance. It was not a simple flu that had affected only the upper parts of the respiratory system, but the virus had already affected the pulmonary alveoli, causing a syndrome very dangerous.
It was immediately intubated in intensive care struggling, until his heart still very strong, gave out.
Carpenter from a very young age, Marcato has always been fascinated by wood and the thousands of constructions he still made today, in his workshop very tidy located behind his home, in via Carducci, in Levada. He has always worked in important carpentry shops. She was an artist of wood but he also had a gorgeous voice from tenor that for about seventy years, has enchanted those who went to religious services.
For this reason, from the age of 14 Bruno was part of the former choir parish church and then he never stopped singing until about ten years ago.
Marcato had an unhappy childhood, remaining orphan of a mother, who died of illness when he was only six months old, and was raised by his large family.
“My dad,” says his daughter Graziella, “was fine despite his age, so was my mother, a couple who was quietly enjoying old age, were inseparable, so much so that they wanted of die together, so as not to disturb anyone at the time of passing away because, they said, widowhood would be too hard after 65 years of life together. And the Madonna li ha listen to you».
Yes they were married on February 11 1956, living first in via Munaron, then in Badoere, in the Treviso area, before building the present house and returning to Levada in 1962. “And to think” continues his daughter Graziella “that due to Covid we had moved to next year the party for dad’s 90 years and together we also wanted to celebrate 65 years of marriage, but this month for us was a tsunami who tore them together and we are not yet able to understand what the first infection may have been ».
Even for the entire hamlet of Levada, where the elderly couple were well known, the news of their death was a severe blow. Marcato’s body will also be cremated after the farewell rite. The mass in memory of Bruno Marcato and Angela Benedetti will be celebrated at a later date, if so too son Gianni, again hospitalized at the hospital in Padua but on the mend, he will be discharged. Bruno and Angela leave their children Gianni, Graziella, Giuliana and Lucia and their beloved grandchildren. –
