The Groningen Safety Region will hold further meetings on Wednesday morning to discuss the regional implementation of the corona measures announced by the cabinet. The measures took effect on Tuesday at 6 p.m., but not everything is already clear in our province.

The Cabinet has given the Safety Regions the space to make exceptions to the new rules. For example, it has been determined that no more than thirty people may gather indoors and a maximum of forty outside. The Safety Region can determine that ‘buildings of great importance’ may allow more people in. Which these are, Groningen will decide on Wednesday.
All culture stages want an exception
This is partly because the Safety Region still wants to discuss the national call for cultural venues. Through the Arts ’92 association, they are asking for an exception for the entire sector (theaters, concert halls, pop, jazz and improvisation stages, cinemas and film theaters). That should be possible because these stages guarantee the distance rules well, they say, which means that they should be able to receive more than thirty people safely.
Amusement parks, museums and libraries also have to be patient
The Safety Region is also still in doubt about museums, amusement parks and libraries. These are so-called transfer locations, where people are not together in one place for long. The safety regions must determine how many people are allowed in for each of these places. That depends on the size of the location, because it must always be possible to keep a distance of 1.5 meters. The list of Groningen locations is still on the table for discussion.
Some catering establishments are allowed to create multiple rooms for thirty people
The third point of discussion is the catering industry. Chairman Koen Schuiling would like to offer more space to catering establishments that comply with the rules and have several rooms in their business. If a restaurant can close off a room with its own toilet facility, it can receive thirty extra guests there. This is a policy that the Groningen Safety Region already introduced with the first relaxation in June. An example of a business that is allowed to have more people in because of the different areas is Mr Mofongo.
In the meantime, the national measures already apply. According to spokesman Hans Coenraads, talks were held with theaters that have programming on Tuesday evening. They can continue according to the old rules. This applies, for example, to a clothing fair in MartiniPlaza.
