The Northern Netherlands police, in collaboration with the German police, has confiscated 50,000 kilos of professional fireworks. Seven people have been arrested in the case. According to the police, these are ‘professional and mass-explosive’ fireworks.
Halfway through this month, three people from Delfzijl were arrested by the Northern Netherlands police, reports RTV North. They are suspected of selling professional fireworks to private individuals.
This is prohibited, because it concerns so-called mass-explosive fireworks, which must be kept in a special room. Moreover, it requires special knowledge to set it off responsibly. If one piece of that firework goes off, everything else can explode too.
Fifty tons
More than 700 kilos of fireworks were found among the suspects from Delfzijl. In addition, EUR 2,300 was seized. Further investigation revealed that the fireworks probably came from Germany.
After sharing information with the German police, a truck was found in Wietmarschen last Thursday with 2,400 kilos of fireworks. At another location in Wietmarschen, the police found 153 pallets with a total of about 50,000 kilos of professional fireworks. The German police arrested four Dutchmen.
The lot was probably intended for the Dutch private market and had a value of 750,000 euros. The police also confiscated 15,000 euros in cash.
