Disney + is already making the GroupWatch feature available. We’ve been waiting for that for a while, but now the new function is here. This makes it possible for up to seven people to watch a film or series together.
The function is a bit like Netflix Party, an app that was developed for Netflix. GroupWatch allows up to seven people to watch a movie or series at the same time. This can be done via the internet, mobile telephones, linked television devices and so on. Anyone can share comments on what they see in real time. For now, the feature is only available in the United States.
Bringing stories to life
Disney wants to bring stories to life in this way. “If you can share your favorite moments with others in this way, but don’t have to be together at the same time,” that really brings stories to life, as far as Jerrell B Jimerson of Disney + is concerned.
Subscribers can use the feature with six other people – all of whom have a Disney + subscription. People can pause or play ahead if needed. In real time, they can also share six emoji through the Disney + app: like, funny, sad, angry, scared in surprised.
Disney expects to roll out the feature to Europe later this fall.
