Trump will face Biden in the first election debate. They are expected to discuss protests and pandemics – ČT24 – Czech Television

Biden likened Trump to Goebbels

“I hope I don’t get lured into a fight. It will be difficult because I predict that he will scream, “he added. Over the weekend, Biden said he expected “personal attacks and lies” from Trump in the debate, and likened his style to Joseph Goebbels, Nazi propaganda chief Adolf Hitler.

“It’s a bit like Goebbels. When you tell lies long enough, you keep repeating them, you repeat them, you repeat them, it becomes generally accepted, “Biden said on Saturday. Trump wrote on Twitter on Sunday that he would demand that Biden take a drug test before or after the debate because Trump’s speeches in the debate were “unbalanced.”

Due to the pandemic, only a limited number of people will watch the first clash of White House contenders at Case Western Reserve, but millions of viewers will watch a live 90-minute debate broadcast without commercials on television and online.

Trump and Biden will then fight twice more – on October 15 and 22. Vice Presidential Candidates Mike Pence and Kamala Harrisová will meet in only one debate on October 7. There are now 35 days until the election, and according to most polls, Biden maintains a relatively stable lead nationwide.

However, the results in the US presidential election are important, especially in countries where the differences between the two candidates are significantly smaller. The debate will start on Tuesday at 21:00 local time (Wednesday at 03:00 CEST).

Trump is a more capable speaker, says the expert

Analyst from the Association for International Affairs Petr Boháček also commented on the upcoming competition between the two candidates in Studio 6, according to which the debate will be sharpened and polarized. “There are a lot of things in the American elections, we have something to look forward to in the media fight,” Boháček expects.

Since most of the pre-election polls are dominated by Biden, Trump is said to be trying to gain a leading position during the race through attacks. According to Boháček, Biden will be at a disadvantage because the current American head of state is a more capable speaker.

“Trump is a show business man who knows how to behave in front of a camera. Biden certainly had this ability in the past, because he has been in politics for decades. However, there are strong doubts as to whether he is able to argue clearly in the face of his opponent and not get entangled in it, “said the analyst.

At the same time, he stated that Biden’s rhetoric is the main reason why the presidential candidate did not speak at meetings or organize any political outputs in the past. There is concern in the American public about how capable a speaker is.

“It records Trump, who has been criticized by everyone for four years. He is on the lookout for all the center-left and left-wing media, while Biden has been more secluded. The president thus has more ammunition, because he can come up with criticism of some of the cases of his opponent, “Boháček added.

“The first debate is expected to be heated. (Trump and Biden) exchanged invectives in advance. In addition, this year’s campaign is different from what the US remembers. Due to coronavirus, candidates cannot campaign actively. Biden ended it in March, interrupted by Trump, but he is now trying to go after his supporters, “said the atmosphere just before the debate, the Czech Television reporter in the United States, David Miřejovský.

According to Miřejovský, this is perhaps the only chance for Biden to show that he is not the sleepy old man Trump calls him, but that he has the strength to solve the most pressing problems of the United States. For Trump, this is a chance to show that he is the only right candidate and to continue the work he has begun.

Television debates have played a key role in the American electoral system since the familiar pre-election duel between Richard Nixon and John Fitzgerald Kennedy in 1960. According to Boháček, American voters in the upcoming race will traditionally be more interested in the candidates’ arguments than in serious debate.
