A space telescope, launched by the European Space Agency last December, found the “most wild and extreme” among what had been discovered from extrasolar planets so far, it turned out that what they called WASP-189b and published a study about it in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, which deals with astrophysics , Is a planet hot to the point where “iron turns into steam in a few seconds” on its surface, which is at a temperature of 3200 degrees Celsius.

The planet, discovered by the CHEOPS Telescope in an orbit at an altitude of 700 km from the Earth, is a gas giant that is 1.5 times larger than Jupiter, and orbits very close to its star, far from Earth, 322 light-years away in the “constellation Libra” located between Scorpio and Virgo.

The planet has one side permanently heading towards its hot and burning blue star, which is 20 times closer to its sun than Earth’s proximity to its sun, according to the study reviewed by Al-Arabiya.net in the magazine’s website, which states that WASP-189b revolves very quickly around Its star, so that there is a cycle every two days and 7 Earth hours, which are the duration of the year in it. As for its star, it has a temperature of two thousand degrees higher than the temperature of the Earth’s sun. However, the planet does not reflect much of the starlight, but rather absorbs most of its light, which leads to heating it and making it shine, “according to the study.

The researchers believe that the planet is not very reflective of light, because there are no clouds on its daytime side, because it is difficult to form at high temperatures, so the side of its day is very bright, to the extent that it can even measure the lost light from the star when the planet passes behind it.
