LIVE | Ready-while-you-wait trial corona test | Inland

TNO will be conducting a trial with a rapid corona test at the RAI in Amsterdam from Wednesday. It must provide a definite answer within an hour of whether someone is infected with the virus. The trial will last two weeks.

People who report to be tested can also voluntarily participate in the new test. Two samples are taken from them: one for the ‘normal’ PCR test, the result of which is known within 24 to 48 hours, and one for the new test. The results are compared with each other. For example, it must become clear whether the new method (Loop mediAted isothermal amPlification, abbreviated to LAMP) works well and reliably in practice. The LAMP test has already proven itself in the laboratory.

According to TNO, this test method can be more than half cheaper than the PCR test. Moreover, it can be made with materials produced exclusively in the Netherlands, so that our country is less dependent on foreign suppliers and competitors.

If the field test turns out well, the collection of samples and their immediate assessment can be carried out in many more places, thus reducing the pressure on the existing test lines.
