Opposition Belarusian writer Alexeyevich has gone to Germany

“Why should Alexeievich leave her country altogether? Nothing like that, she has flown in her private affairs. She has scheduled meetings, a book fair in Sweden, Sicily, she will be presented with an award,” the writer’s assistant told tut.by on Monday.

“It’s her normal life, she just couldn’t leave because of how she’s feeling. When will she return? It all depends on how things develop here and how she’ll feel,” she explained.

Maria Voitešonoka, an acquaintance of Alexeievich, told the AFP news agency that the writer had gone to Germany to receive pre-planned medical services.

“She will return to Belarus within a month. She will not stop working as a member of the Coordinating Council,” explained Veitochonok.

Belarus has reportedly continued protests against the rigging of the presidential election for more than a month and a half. Several thousand people have been detained during the protests and several hundred more have been injured. Workers in many companies have gone on strike.

According to the official results of the presidential election in Belarus on August 9, the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko won 80.1% of the vote, and opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovska – 10.1%, but the opposition believes that the election results are fake and Tikhanovsky won the election convincingly.
