The number of confirmed corona infections rose by 2,995 between Saturday morning and Sunday morning. That is a new day record.
Between Thursday and Friday, the number of positive tests increased by 2,777, the ANP reports. In the past seven days, almost 18,000 people have been tested positive, according to data from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
The number of reported deaths increased by 8. The number of hospital admissions also increased by 37, the highest number since 16 May. This does not mean that these people have died or been admitted in the past 24 hours, because such data are sometimes processed a little later. If hospitals submit their administration from the weekend on Monday, this will only be reflected in the data of the RIVM on Tuesday.
Amsterdam had a record number of 465 positive tests last 24 hours. In the capital, 12,018 infections have now been confirmed. Exactly two months ago, on July 27, the counter was at 3020. In Rotterdam, 282 infections were discovered last 24 hours. The total number of diagnosed cases in the Maasstad thus rose to over 9,000. In The Hague, the number of reports rose by 229.
In the municipalities of Zaanstad and Groningen, the number of infected people has exceeded a thousand. In Groningen 37 people tested positive, so that the counter now stands at 1007. In Zaanstad, the number of confirmed cases rose by 33 to 1012.
Since the start of the outbreak in February, the corona virus has been diagnosed in 111,626 people in the Netherlands. The actual number is likely to be significantly higher. Not everyone was tested in the first months. Due to a lack of capacity at laboratories, it has also been difficult to make an appointment for a test in recent weeks, which means that not all potential patients can be tested.
Last Wednesday, the number of infections passed the 100,000 mark. After that, it took only four days for 10,000 more cases to appear. That’s a new record. In six days the number of infections rose from 80,000 to 90,000 and five days later the 100,000th infection was established.
