Arrested for fleeing and not paying the taxi driver a trip from Barcelona to Cartagena
It all started in the Catalan capital when a man asked a taxi driver for a quote to take him and his girlfriend to Cartagena.
Apparently, this man’s grandmother was admitted to a hospital in this city and he intended to visit her. After negotiating the price, they agreed that he would pay 750 euros and the tolls, having to pay 300 euros in advance.
Once the journey started, the taxi driver asked him to pay the 300 euros, the client giving him only 100, saying that it was all he had and that when they reached their destination he would pay the rest with his grandmother’s card.
As the reason for the trip seemed credible, the taxi driver did not suspect anything
Upon reaching the parking lot of the Santa María del Rosell Hospital in Cartagena, in which the grandmother was supposedly admitted, the couple got out of the vehicle and ran away, although they could be reached by the taxi driver with the help of health personnel.
The young man then began to make threats against the taxi driver such as “I’m going to break your face” and “if you don’t let us go I’ll break your face because I know how to kick boxing.”
After giving notice to Room 091, several National Police officers appeared and proceeded to identify the two passengers, verifying that the girl was a minor and had been reported missing.
When the taxi driver reported that the girl had not agreed to anything at any time, nor had she had a conversation with him, she was transferred to the police station in a camouflaged vehicle for protection purposes.
The minor told the agents that she had fled her home to start a romantic relationship with her companion, that they had tried to travel on various public transport but that they were asking for the documentation to get the tickets.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Minors has arranged for her to be admitted to a center for minors while waiting for her legal representative to appear and take charge of her.
The young man, a Spanish national, acknowledged having tricked the taxi driver to get to Cartagena, for which the agents proceeded to arrest him as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of fraud.
The arrested man was placed at the disposal of the Cartagena Guard Investigation Court, which has ordered his release with charges.
