TikTok, US judge temporarily blocks Trump ban

ROMA – In the United States, TikTok wins the first round in court. A US judge blocked – albeit temporarily – the ban on downloading the application in the US, which would go into effect today.

Judge Carl J. Nichols of the District of Columbia Federal Court accepted the request of the lawyers of the company owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

TikTok, the video sharing app targeted by the US Administration for data security, is pleased with the ruling. “We are delighted that the Court agreed with our legal arguments,” said TikTok, promising to continue to defend its own interests and those of users.

TikTok assures that dialogue with the US administration will continue. On the table there is a hypothesis of an agreement with the US groups Oracle and Wamart that would allow the Chinese to avoid the totalitarian sale of their application.

Now, TikTok is convinced that President Donald Trump will settle for this solution because user data, collected by the app, would remain on US archives and servers without traveling to China. But at the moment there is no green light from the Trump administration to this only provisional agreement.
