The autumn voting for the Kilogram Culture 2020 award has started / Article / LSM.lv

On September 28, the autumn voting of the Latvian Public Media Annual Award in Culture “Kilograms of Culture 2020” has started. The jury has also put to the vote the events and work that took place during the emergency.

It is possible to vote until October 9 at 11:59 p.m.

As last year, this year the nominees and listeners will nominate the nominees in three votes – in the autumn vote it is possible to evaluate the cultural events and works that took place from May to August 2020. A jury of social media culture professionals has nominated candidates in seven categories in the autumn vote.

Due to the lack of competition, we had to decide not to nominate any candidates in the “Cinema” category in the autumn vote.

The summer in this industry was really “empty time” from the point of view of premieres, so we will evaluate the cinema events in the winter vote – it is already clear that there will be no shortage of candidates. Therefore, the film “We Wanted to Change the World”, directed by Aija Bley, which premiered in May, will be evaluated by nominating candidates for the winter vote, ”explains Ieva Rozentāle, a representative of the jury and head of the editorial office of LTV Kultūra.

Only one entry from each category – the one with the most public support – will be put to the final vote early next year.

The easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the summer allowed culture to “breathe” and partially return to traditional forms of art enjoyment, in person, not online. However, we have also put some cultural events to be voted on by spectators and listeners, which were to be enjoyed remotely, ”says Ieva Rozentāle.

About the Kilogram of Culture Award

“Kilograms of Culture” is a public media award in the field of culture, which confirms the active participation of public media in the processes of Latvian cultural life. The prize is awarded by Latvian Television, Latvian Radio and the Latvian public media portal LSM.lv. The tradition dates back to 2012, when the awards were presented for the brightest cultural events of 2011. In the vision of the Latvian Radio and Latvian Television jury, the works submitted for the autumn vote have been recognized as the most original and high-quality Latvian cultural events that took place from May to August 2020 and are worthy of fighting for the opportunity to win the Kilogram Culture Award. As usual, the jury consists of LTV, LR and LSM cultural professionals – Ieva Rozentāle, head of LTV Cultural Programs, journalists Lilita Eglīte, Eva Johansone, Daira Āboliņa and Henrieta Verhoustinska, LR3 “Radio Klasika” director Gunda Vaivode and journalists Lests Silab Jakovļeva and Toms Treibergs, as well as the editor of the culture section of the portal LSM.lv Laila Burāne.
