Although we have been talking about the elimination of the time change for years, so far there is no indication that we will be able to give up changing the watch twice a year. This obligation awaits us in exactly one month.
When will time change be a thing of the past?
Changing the time from summer to winter seems seemingly pleasant, finally, by switching the watches from 3.00 to 2.00 at night, we gain an hour of sleep, but the fact that on the same day after 4 p.m. it gets dark and we have the feeling that there is still so much to be done, and the day de facto ends. Poles, as shown by all kinds of research, are in favor of eliminating the change of time. So when it turned out to be quite a realistic scenario two years ago, most of us reacted with enthusiasm. Meanwhile, in a moment, as every year, we will have to change the watch again and, what’s worse, it is not known how long it will take.
The proposal to eliminate the time change, as Money.pl reminds us, came a few years ago from the European Parliament, whose members cited scientific research showing, inter alia, negative effect of changing time on health. Parliament asked the European Commission to evaluate the solution currently in place. The latter conducted a public consultation, in which it received 4.6 million responses (the vast majority from ordinary people), of which nearly 85% opted for a departure from the change of time (only the majority of the inhabitants of Greece and Cyprus were opposed to this option).
Following public consultations in 2018, the European Commission published a draft directive abolishing the clock shift. The European Parliament agreed to this proposal, indicating 2021 as the last year in which the current system will apply.
