Latvian basketball player Andrejs Gražulis on Sunday scored 18 points in the first game of the Italian Series A season, but Artūrs Strautiņš stood out with “double-double”, helping Latvians celebrate victories.
The Trieste “Allianz” club, represented by Gražuulis, beat the “Vanoli” of Cremona with the result 102: 77 (29:19, 22:12, 30:16, 21:30).
Gražulis spent 25 minutes and 39 seconds on the court, during which he sent seven of the eight two-point shots and four of the five “penalties” to the basket, but did not hit his only long shot. He also defeated seven rebounds, scored one ball once, intercepted one ball, made one mistake, broke the rules three times and provoked equal remarks, scoring 23 efficiency points.
The most successful winner with 24 points was Mike Henry.
Meanwhile, Artūrs Strautiņš scored 12 points and Ingus Jakovičs added two points, beating his representative Varese “Openjobmetis” at home with 94:89 (17:23, 16:20, 26:16, 22:22) beat Brescia’s “Germani”.
Strautiņš played for 32 minutes and 27 seconds, broadcasting all six free throws and two of the seven “threes” in the basket, but not five five-pointers. He also won ten rebounds, made one assists, intercepted one ball, made one mistake, breached the rules twice, provoked four remarks and scored 15 efficiency points.
Jakovičs spent 19 minutes and 45 seconds on the court, during which he took one of the two two-point shots, but did not hit both long shots. He also has one rebound, one error and two notes in his account.
Lewis School stood out in the Varese team with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jānis Blūms was left out of the match, in which he represented Reggio di Emilia’s “Unahotels” at the home of the Milan “A / X Armani Exchange” with 71:87 (17:19, 23:25, 13:20, 23:18).
Series A will feature 16 teams this season.
