The German superclub Bayern Munich suffered an unexpected loss on Sunday in the second round of the Bundesliga football championship, interrupting an impressive series of victories and lost matches.
Bayern acknowledged Hoffenheim’s superiority with a 1: 4 (1: 2) guest.
The Munich arrived in Hofenheim with 23 games won and 32 games in a row, but the guests missed their impressive series.
The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as Ermins Bičakčičs tried lifting the ball over keeper Manuela Noiera. Eight minutes later Moaness Daburs moved the ball over Noieram and reached 2: 0, but in the 38th minute of the game Jozua Kimmihs with a long shot recovered one.
With 13 minutes left until the end of the regular time, Andrejs Kramaričs restored the home team’s two-goal lead, but in the second minute of the second half compensation time, the Croatian scored 4: 1 for Hoffenheim.
Bayern did not save Robert Levandowski from the field in the second half. The rest was also given to some other regular players, as the Bayern team still fought against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on Thursday.
“It was clear that one day it would happen,” said Bayern head coach Hansi Flick about the broken series. “We gave our opponents a good chance to score, but we didn’t realize our own.”
Already on Wednesday, “Bayern” will compete with “Borussia” of Dortmund in the German Super Cup, trying to win the first trophy of the season. Last season, the Munich club won the UEFA Champions League, won the UEFA Super Cup, was crowned German Champion and won the local cup.
Meanwhile, after the second round, the coach Schalke 04 of Gelsenkirchen has released its coach David Wagner. Schalke 04 capitulated Bayern 0-0 at the start of the season, but Bremen’s Werder gave up 1: 3 this weekend.
Wagner has been leading the Gelsenkirchen team since last July. He previously ran the English club Huddersfield Town, which helped him enter the Premier League, and worked for the Dortmund Borussia reserve team.
During the 58 seasons in the Bundesliga, only three coaches have been fired after the second round. In 1983, Koln quickly got rid of Rinus Michels, in 1995 the same Cologne unit issued a “wolf passport” to Morten Olsen at the beginning of the season, and in 2009 Hannover fired Dieter Hecking after the second round.
