20-year-old cadet Vyacheslav Zolochevskyi was aboard a Ukrainian plane when it crashed near the city of Kharkiv last Friday. That about a mile from where the plane would land. The crew had requested permission to land a few minutes earlier because they had encountered engine problems. Zolochevskyi survived the crash and was able to jump out of the plane before it went up in flames.
The region’s governor went to visit the cadet at the hospital. “He said it looked like a video game,” said Governor Kucher. “When he got up, he saw his friends on fire.” According to the governor, the cadet does not remember everything because he was unconscious for a while after the crash. “When he came to again, he tried to extinguish the flames around his colleagues. He also did this with a colleague who was still taken to hospital. ” That cadet has since passed away. Zolochevskyi’s condition would now be stable.
The plane crash is currently under investigation. On the plane were 20 cadets and seven officers from Kharkiv Air Force University.
At the time of the crash, the plane was probably being piloted by the captain and not one of the cadets.
