Reveals: – Mom cried:
Many raised their eyebrows when the Danish striker Martin Braithwaite (29) was signed by Barcelona as an emergency solution in February.
The Danish striker flopped in Middlesbrough in 2017, but made a good figure in relegation-threatened Leganés – which made Barcelona pay around 18 million euros for him.
The reason was, among other things, that Ousmane Dembélé was injured for a long time. The rules in Spain say that clubs can get a replacement, if the player is out with injury for at least five months.
Now the main character in the Danish podcast tells “The journey” about how the mother reacted to the shock transition. Rumors began to circulate on a Monday, and the 29-year-old had to keep it a secret from friends and family.
– I can remember Tuesday afternoon, where everything is out, then I say to mum: ‘It’s true, mum. This with Barcelona. There are some small details left, but it’s true. ‘ And I remember my mother just started laughing, says Braithwaite and continues:
– She just says: ‘You have worked so hard for so long, and I am so happy on your behalf. You deserve it so much. ‘ And it was absolutely insane to experience as a family. I talked to my father. They were really happy on my behalf. I could feel it.
The striker stands with one goal in eleven league games for the Catalans, but mostly as a substitute.
