Ukraine. An-26 plane crash of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Killed and wounded

The Ukrainian state emergency service said on Friday evening that 22 people were killed and two seriously injured in the An-26 plane crash near the city of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. The office of President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that it was an aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The plane fell and caught fire during the landing approach. The state emergency service informed that the crash occurred two kilometers from a military airport. The Interfax-Ukraine agency reported that students of the Kharkiv National Air Force University of Ukraine were on board the machine. According to preliminary information, it was a training flight.

According to the deputy head of the Ministry of the Interior, Anton Heraszchenko, there were 28 people on board the plane. By late Friday evening, 22 dead and two seriously injured had been notified and taken to hospital.

A rescue operation in which 50 people take part is underway. Heraszczenko reported that rescuers search the crashed wreckage of the machine and look for other dead and wounded.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced that in connection with the catastrophe he was going to the Kharkiv region. In connection with the catastrophe, a state commission will be established, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Oleh Uruskyj.
