Tottenham Hotspur get a ‘bye’ in the third round Premier League Cup, following the case COVID-19 of Leyton Orient. Tottenham next meet Chelsea.
The Leyton vs Tottenham match in the third round of the Premier League Cup was supposed to be held on Wednesday (23/9/2020) yesterday. But the match had to be postponed after a number of Leyton players were infected with the Corona virus.
In the end, because Leyton was deemed unable to fulfill his obligations to compete, EFL as the tournament organizer decided they lost to WO. Tottenham also qualified for the fourth round without competing.
BBC reported 17 people who tested positive for Leyton. The test itself can be carried out by the fourth division club with financial assistance from Tottenham.
“According to the rules Premier League Cup, Tottenham Hotspur has been given a bye and will next play against Chelsea on Tuesday, 29 September, “said the official EFL statement as reported BBC.
Tottenham will host Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to fight for the fifth round ticket. Chelsea previously escaped after crushing the Championship team, Barnsley, with a score of 6-0.
“Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur sends their best wishes to Leyton Orient, for the health and safety of the players and their staff, their families and all those affected during this period,” said a Tottenham Hotspur statement.
