Due to ‘unstable ICT’, the 088 and 0900 numbers of control rooms in various regions in the Netherlands were difficult or unreachable for three days last week. A number of control room systems also sometimes did not work.
Minister of Justice and Security Ferd Grapperhaus informs the House of Representatives in a letter about the IT malfunction. The problems took place from September 15 to late afternoon on Thursday September 17. The IT disruption had consequences for the control rooms East Brabant, North Holland, Zeeland-West Brabant and Rotterdam.
The minister emphasizes that the emergency number 112 and the communication system C2000 were not affected by the malfunction. Well it was radio control system of the emergency rooms, but enough alternatives were available, says Grapperhaus. The police ‘office automation’ has also been disrupted.
Substantive details about the malfunction are not included in the letter. According to Grapperhaus, the cause could be traced back to ‘an instability in the ICT services’. The National Cooperation Control Room and the ICT service of the police are conducting further investigation. At the moment the service would be stable.
According to Grapperhaus, actions had already been initiated ‘on the basis of previous investigations’ to further improve the ‘stability and continuity of the police and control room systems’. This is now being worked on with more urgency.
