On Wednesday, September 23, at the beginning of the South Bridge, unsealed communication created a dangerous situation in road traffic. A car and a motorcycle entered the hole of the well, according to the program “Degpunkta”.
On Wednesday morning, the safety and health of road users were threatened by a deep hole almost in the middle of the road. The sewer well was left without a cover because it was mechanically damaged. Someone also reported the situation to the police, who passed the information on to the responsible company “Rīgas tilti”.
A moment later, after the information has been handed over, around 10.00, warning signs have been placed at the dangerous place. They did not stand there for a long time, because around 15.00 they were knocked down and damaged. After half an hour, the enclosures were re-imposed. Representatives of the company “Rīgas tilti” say that the danger was not eliminated immediately, because a new manhole cover was not put on. This was not done in order not to significantly impede traffic or artificially create congestion.
In the evening around At 20.00, when repeatedly the dividing signs were damaged and the well continued to endanger traffic, a car entered it. After a while, a motorcyclist also entered the well with the entire front wheel.
According to the program, the owners of the injured vehicles asked the law enforcement officers whether the people involved in the accident would also be compensated by the responsible company, but the response of the police officers was not satisfactory.
