NASA’s OSIRIS-REx probe will land on the asteroid Bennu / Day in October

Sin OSIRIS-REx to Determining started in 2016, launching a seven-year mission to find out the origins of the solar system.

As told OSIRIS-REx Mike Moro, Deputy Project Director, the probe will be in contact with the asteroid surface for about five to ten seconds and must collect at least 60 grams of material.

OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer) in 2023 with the obtained samples will return to Earth.

Determining is an asteroid close to Earth with a diameter of about 490 meters.

Determining was selected for exploration from about 500,000 asteroids in the solar system because it orbits near the Earth ‘s trajectory around the Sun, its size is suitable for scientific exploration, and it is one of the oldest asteroids known to NASA.

Determining was discovered in 1999. NASA considers it one of the most dangerous asteroids known, because in 2135 it could approach the Earth dangerously.

The probability that Determining collided with the Earth is 1: 2700. If that happened, the blow would be about 80,000 times stronger than the atomic bomb that destroyed the Japanese city of Hiroshima at the end of World War II.
