Update 20:13 – ‘Cabinet must prevent holiday trips to orange areas’
The cabinet must do much more to actively combat travel to orange areas if they are not necessary, say GroenLinks and SP in a parliamentary debate. Many people still go on holiday to those countries or regions, while the risk of infection with the corona virus is high there. There is a danger that the returnees will take the virus with them, especially now that a second wave is underway.
Hard agreements must be made with the travel industry, for example about stunt offers, tests and quarantine after return, said Member of Parliament Suzanne Kröger (GroenLinks). She called it “completely reprehensible” that, for example, Ryanair offers flights of 5 euros to high-risk areas and even makes the second ticket free. “It’s not enough, it’s about how we can stop this,” says Kröger.

Update 18:15 – Mayor Aboutaleb wants to nationalize corona test laboratories if necessary
Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb wants the cabinet to nationalize laboratories if necessary if it turns out that there is not enough capacity to test people for the corona virus. Aboutaleb told RTV Rijnmond that the capacity that is still used by the laboratories for commercial tests must be used if there are no possibilities to increase the public testing capacity.
According to the mayor, “setting up sufficient laboratory capacity” is the biggest problem at the moment. He acknowledges that this is an extreme measure and that the test capacity in the Netherlands cannot simply be increased tenfold. “If you want the total test capacity to be used universally, you could intervene,” he says.
Update 17:22 – ‘Move carnival to summer!’
Carnival is better moved to the summer. This reduces the risk of infections. That is what Maastricht professor of Social Medicine Christian Hoebe, who is also head of the Infectious Diseases department of the GGD South Limburg, says.
Hoebe, who is also a member of the Outbreak Management Team, wonders in an interview published by Maastricht University on Thursday, “whether we should actually continue to celebrate Carnival at the beginning of spring with a higher risk of infectious diseases. Carnival has probably also played a role in the spread of the corona virus. I know that’s swearing in church, but health-wise it’s better to do it in the summer. ”
