Financieele Dagblad: makers of smartwatches do not meet EU privacy standards – IT Pro – News

Fortunately, something to impose fines for, but that never solves anything.

Many functions on my Garmin Forerunner 245 are unusable when not connected to the Garmin Connect App. on my phone.

An account must first be created for all smartwaches, where you must enter a number of data about yourself in order for your smartwatch to work fully. I’ve kept that to the bare minimum, because I want to use the thing.

The data then always ends up at Garmin, which replies that you can also refuse. I did that, but then the smartwatch no longer works.
I wrote that to them, but they don’t answer it. (Sent 5 times).

So there is no option to turn data collection OFF and still have a working smartwatch, but now found an option to issue fines, unfortunately, as an end user, that does not help me at all.

There is also no reason for me to give Garmin permission for my Calendar, Camera, CONTACTS, call lists, Location, Storage and SMS, which I have turned off, but all day long I get a notification that permission must be given , very annoying. I have sent them a message about this, but even after many repetitions of course still no answer.
