Musical life continues – with “Potato Palm” in Salaspils – Music

This Friday, September 25, the last open-air music festival of this season will take place in the music and art garden of Salaspils Culture House “Rīgava” – “Potato Palm” cherished by music journalist and DJ Uldis Rudaks.

This year, Kovidlaiki has put its negative stamp on practically all musical events – also the “Potato Palm”, which has been held in Salaspils for a couple of years and is popular among underground fans. This time the event will take place in the format of a sitting festival, and from 5.30 pm to 11 pm – to comply with all restrictions on distance, gatherings and events. Each visitor will be given a face mask with a festival logo at the entrance, which will remind them of the festival and this year, which has led many to change their plans.

“Yellow Postmen”, “Dairy Adventures”, “Nikto” and “Les Attitudes Spectrales” will perform at the meeting festival with the quite significant title “Potato Palm 57 – Life Continues”. ”Performances were canceled almost at the last minute, replacing them with Latvian groups.

It should be reminded that “Kartupeļpalma” started in Salaspils as an annual one-day music festival, the program of which is given by Uldis Rudaks, giving priority to the quality and originality of the offer, rather than popularity criteria. The first festival took place on July 14, 2018 as the closing night concert of the Flower Friends Meeting at the Botanical Garden, so it was named after the plant whose flower opens at night when other flowers close. The festival was given the motto “opens when others close”, because even the musicians who play at the festival can mostly be heard only when the louder advertised artists have access. In previous festivals, Latvian groups such as “Alis P”, “Voiceks Voiska”, “Zāle”, “Ezeri”, “Sigma”, “Juuk”, “Inokentijs Mārpls”, “Zig Zag”, “Martas Asinis” performed on two stages. , “Sonntags Legion”, “Spāre”, “Rīgas Modes”, “Židrūns”, “Krāsa”, “Baložu Full of Yards”, “Rūsa”, “Bērnības Milicija”, even “Fuck Art” and many others.
