On September 23, the International Day of Sign Languages is celebrated all over the world, and in honor of it, the Latvian Deaf Union, in cooperation with photographer Rein Fyodorov, has created a virtual photo exhibition “Dreaming in Silence”.
It consists of portraits of ten deaf people who tell one of their dreams with one sign from sign language.
The exhibition is on view Deaf Union website, and its aim is to promote dialogue between the deaf and hard of hearing communities of Latvia. Therefore, what unites the two groups has been chosen to achieve the goal, namely, dreaming in sleep.
As the photographer says, dreams are a universal language all over the world, and dreams are heard by both the deaf and the deaf.
It should be noted that there are about 32 thousand people with hearing impairments in Latvia, of which about two thousand people have Latvian as their mother tongue.
