Liputan6.com, Jakarta The data shows that 803 pharmacists and 2,291 midwives in Indonesia have been exposed COVID-19. This is proof that all health workers who are at the forefront of the health sector have a high risk of being infected with COVID-19.
“All health workers, not only doctors and nurses, there are midwives, pharmacists, physiotherapists, public health workers. Indeed, the people in the field provide services to patients, the risk is high. It’s just not well recorded,” said the Council of Experts. Indonesian Public Health Expert Association (IAKMI) Hermawan Saputra.
The risk of a midwife being exposed to COVID-19 is high. Every day, mothers can come to the midwife’s house for a consultation about the womb or birth control device morning, noon, night. Even though midwives have implemented health protocols including wearing personal protective equipment such as masks, the same thing is not necessarily done by patients.
“That’s what happened, so the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in midwives is high,” said Hermawan via telephone Health-Liputan6.com, Wednesday (23/9/2020).
Pharmacists are also one of the health workers who do have a high risk of being exposed to COVID-19. For example, pharmacists who work in hospitals, even though they already wear PPE and mica barriers, still have physical contact with patients. Then, pharmacists sometimes still receive payment money which could be a medium for transmitting COVID-19.
“So, it is vulnerable.”
