BUSSUM – Exactly two weeks ago, the corona virus broke out in the Patria nursing home of Nusantara Zorg. Unfortunately, four residents have died from the virus, eight residents are currently infected. Five employees have also been tested positive and are in home insulation.
The nursing home, where mainly residents of Dutch-Indonesian descent live, has been closed to visitors for two weeks, confirms Roy Dom, director of Nusantara Zorg. The outbreak of the virus in the care home was received with care by the residents and family members at the beginning, but there was never any panic.
“On September 7 there was a suspicion of a corona infection and the person in question was immediately tested,” says Dom. “After a positive result, the protocol went into effect immediately, the care home was locked and all residents and care workers were tested. We immediately communicated everything with the residents and family members, so that the situation has remained relatively calm. ”
Own room
The care home is currently keeping the infected residents separate from the other residents. The infected residents are nursed by their own group of staff. Personnel is equipped with protective equipment to prevent contamination. The infected residents are cared for in their own room. The less ill residents can visit each other. This is nice for the residents concerned, says Dom, because some would find it difficult to leave their own room and be alone.
Visit extended
The cause of the coronavirus remains guesswork, but according to Dom it is very unlikely the recent Indie commemoration at the new monument of the care home has something to do with it. “It is difficult because of the long incubation period. And the first visible contamination does not have to be the first. Every nursing home gradually expanded visits during the summer and some of the residents went outside again independently. There is a real chance that the corona virus got in like this. ”
The five infected employees are doing relatively well. They are currently at home in quarantine.
Third infected nursing home
Nursing home Patria is the third nursing home in the Gooi en Vechtstreek region where the corona virus broke out. Last month it went Hilversum care home Gooiers Erf locked due to infections. One resident has died of the virus.
De Gooise Warande in Bussum reported at the beginning of September that some residents and staff members were tested positive for corona. In the meantime, there are no more infections and the care home is corona-free again.
