London –
Leyton Orient vs Tottenham Hotspur which is planned to be held at midnight must be postponed. This was decided after several positive Leyton players COVID-19.
Leyton is scheduled to host Tottenham at the Breyer Group Stadium in the third round Carabao Cup, Tuesday (23/9) at 00.00 WIB. But on Monday (21/9), Leyton announced that some of his players had tested positive for COVID-19.
Reported by Sportmail, there are 10 players from clubs who play in Leage Two (fourth caste Premier League) who have contracted the Corona virus. Seeing these conditions, the authorities decided to postpone the Leyton vs Tottenham match.
This has also been confirmed by the Tottenham camp through a statement on the club’s official website. The new fixtures for these matches will be announced in the near future.
“The Carabao Cup match between Leyton Orient and Tottenham Hotspur will not take place tonight as scheduled,” read a statement on Tottenham’s official website.
“Discussions are underway between interested parties regarding the further impact of the decision not to take place tonight. Progress on this will be announced as soon as possible.”
“Leyton Orient, EFL (English Football League) and the competent authorities are conducting a thorough review of the club’s COVID-19 protocol. It is intended that their stadium and training ground can be opened as soon as possible,” the statement continued.
The postponement of the match against Leyton is arguably going to benefit the Tottenham camp. The reason is, they temporarily avoided super busy schedules.
Tottenham Hotspur now have enough rest time before traveling to the headquarters of the Macedonian club, FC Shkendija for the Europa League qualifying third round match on Friday (25/9). Harry Kane and friends last played on Sunday (20/9), when they won 5-2 at Southampton in the second week of the Premier League.
