MANCHESTER – Manchester United legend Gary Neville explains the player transfer strategy between his former club and their rivals, Liverpool. Man United, said Neville, has no competence in the transfer market.
Man United so far, only one player has been signed. Management managed to get Donny van de Beek from Ajax for a transfer value of 40 million pounds, or approximately Rp. 785 billion with a contract duration of five years.
However, Man United’s main target, Jadon Sancho, has yet to land at Old Trafford. The move of the 20-year-old player was hampered by a transfer fee of up to 120 million euros, which was asked by Borussia Dortmund.

Neville, who is now a football observer, explains his theory why Man United failed to bring in targeted players. This is inversely proportional to Liverpool who have already got three players, namely Kostas Tsimikas, Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara.
“(Man United) doesn’t have the authority and control in the transfer market. It’s a stark contrast to Liverpool, who are in control, “he said in his Podcast.
“What has happened in the last eight years, I think the people there (Man United) have lost confidence and they are now trying other ways,” he said.
He explained that Liverpool were very good in the transfer market. They got Alcantara from Bayern Munich for a fee of 20 million pounds (approximately Rp377 billion).
“You see Liverpool getting a player for 40 million pounds for a price of 25 million pounds. (Timo) Werner (at Chelsea) is definitely quite cheap compared to prices on the market,” said Neville.
“Manchester United always seem to have to pay a high price. I don’t think the people at the club will like it,” he said again.
Neville explained that Man United directors do not have the quality and experience in bringing in players, because they are not people who come from the world of football. He added that Man United’s board of directors was very complicated and convoluted.
“Liverpool and Chelsea are fast and precise, the same as Manchester City. Man United can’t seem to finish their business and unfortunately that has become a big problem,” he said.
“That’s the problem United have. They haven’t got the authority and control in the transfer market, “said Neville.
“The people in charge of this will not like to hear it but they have to hear it because they are not doing their job. The players and coaches are criticized, but the people who are in the stands have a duty to make a strong team to build a team that is strong. can win the league, “he concluded.
